Lewis J Goetz FAIA, FIIDA, is a nationally recognized architect with more than 45 years of professional experience. He applies his design excellence approach and leadership skills to a diverse body of award winning work in planning, architecture, interior design, and graphic arts.
For over 32 years (1978-2011), Lewis J. Goetz, FAIA, FIIDA was Founder | President | and CEO of Group Goetz Architects, a Washington, DC based internationally recognized award winning design firm. With affiliate partners in Beijing, London, and Copenhagen the firm’s design focus was in architecture, interiors, planning, and graphic design including building renovations, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse projects. Most recently, 2014-2020 Mr. Goetz established and was Principal and Managing Director of the Washington, DC office of Baskervill, a nationally recognized architectural and engineering firm headquartered in Richmond, VA. 2011-2014 Mr. Goetz worked with LEO A DALY the international A/E firm in its Washington, DC office leading the regional development of the corporate commercial, government, and higher education market sectors.
Mr. Goetz has won numerous local and national awards including two National AIA Honor Awards. Mr. Goetz is known for his strategic thinking on architecture, interiors, and workplace design and has spoken publicly in a number of forums, including the AIA, IFMA World Workplace, IIDA, NEOCON, McGraw Hill, Design DC, and Lambda Alpha regarding organizational, technical and aesthetic issues affecting architecture and interiors, and the design of the workplace.
As an expert in workplace design issues, Mr. Goetz was a contributor and consultant to the GSA's "The Integrated Workplace: A Comprehensive Approach to Developing Workspace." Mr. Goetz is quoted regularly in the national media such as Fast Company, USA Today, Bloomberg Business Radio, Architectural Record, Contract, IIDA’s Perspective, Interiors, Facilities Design & Management and other local, national and international publications.
At the time of his inductions Mr. Goetz was one of only six individuals that are Fellows in both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and International Interior Design Association (IIDA). He served as President of IIDA International (2003-2004), Chairman of the IIDA Foundation (2004-2005), and served for 6 years on the IIDA International Board of Directors. Most recently he served as Chairman of the IIDA College of Fellows 2007-2011. Currently Mr. Goetz is Co-Chair of the Design Excellence Committee for the DC Chapter of the AIA, and also a member of the Fellows committee. Mr. Goetz is a member of Lambda Alpha International, and the prestigious Cosmos Club in Washington, DC.
In 2010 Mr. Goetz founded the American High Speed Rail Alliance (AHSRA) a 501 c6 not-for-profit organization advocating, educating, and lobbying for high speed rail systems in the United States. Mr. Goetz served as its founding President and Board Member. He has spoken nationally and internationally for AHSRA in New York, Denver, Washington, DC, London, and Abu Dhabi.
